Founded in 1951, Ðǿմ«Ã½’s mission is to enable and affirm the highest standards of healthcare quality and safety for all. Ðǿմ«Ã½ evaluates and accredits more than 23,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States.

An independent, not-for-profit organization, Ðǿմ«Ã½ is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. To earn and maintain The Gold Seal of Approval® from Ðǿմ«Ã½ an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years. (Laboratories must be surveyed every two years.)
